The most famous U2 people that collaborate with the band for a long time are: Daniel Lanois, Brian Eno and Paul McGuinness. Because of their importance, share and contribution for the Bono, Larry, Adam and Edge I put them to this section separately to describe their uniqueness. The rest of crew is menton below.
As said Bono in 2001, U2 is a "family business", apart from Bono, Larry, Adam and Egde and their closest family like for example Sebastian Clayton - (Adam's brother, who has overseen U2.com since it's launch), there is also a huge group of people who follows the band from their early days, mostly from the beginning.
Some of them are well-know bodyguards of the band like Brian and John, some Bono best friends like: Simon Carmody, Gavin Friday (he was born in Fionan Martin Hanvey, 8 October 1959, Dublin, he is an Irish singer and songwriter, composer and painter. Gavin grew up in Glasnevin, a neighbourhood located on Dublin's Northside. He was a founding member of the gothic rock group "The Virgin Prunes" and has recorded several solo albums and soundtracks. He has maintained a close friendship with U2's Bono since both were children, and they collaborated on the soundtrack for the Jim Sheridan film „In the Name of the Father").
Another Bono friend from a childhood is Guggi (he was born in Dublin in 1959 and grew up on the north side of the city. He is the second eldest of 10 children. Guggi is an avante-garde Irish artist, once a member of the goth/post-punk band "The Virgin Prunes" alongside his close friend Gavin. Guggi grew up and remains best friends with U2's Bono. In 1984 he left "The Virgin Prunes" to pursue his passion for art. Since then he has exhibited his minimalistic paintings, representations of bowls and vessels, in various galleries, among which the Tony Shafrazi Gallery in New York, the Osborne Samuel Gallery in London and the Solomon Gallery in Dublin. He is the older brother of Peter Rowan, a photographer who as a child appeared on many of U2's release covers, and Johnny Rowan, a musician. He lives in Dublin with his wife Sibylle and their four sons).
Other people who belongs to the U2 crew are: Dallas Scho (The Edge's Guitar Technician), Sam O'Sullivan (Crew Chief and Larry's tech)- also many fans consider Sam as a „Boss of HQ", Philip Docherty (Bono's Guitar Tech), Joe O'Herlihy (U2's travelling sound engineer who takes much of the credit for their live sound), Stuart Morgan (Adam's tech). In the family there are also people responsible for the show, tour and stage like: Willie Williams (show designer), Dennis Sheehan (tour manager), Rocko Reedy (stage manager), Craig Evans (tour director), Bob Koch (tour business manager). In the team there is a lot of older and young, talented engineers like Steve Lillywhite (born 1955 is a Grammy Award-winning English music producer for record of the Year with U2's "Beautiful Day" and "Walk On. He is with the band from the beginning, he mixed every U2 album, including "NLOTH"). Young generation represents Declan Gaffney (he is a young recording engineer, mixer and producer. He has recently finshed working on U2's upcoming album "No Line On The Horizon". He has mixed 5 tracks from the upcoming album, including lead single "Get On Your Boots" for which he received an additional production credit, with additional mixing on 2 more), another guy is Terry Lawless ( he is a keyboardist, saxophonist, flautist, MIDI sound designer, digital audio specialist, Macintosh programmer and keyboard technician who has been on the production staff for many major recording and performing artists. Winning Record of the year 2000 for "Beautiful Day", Record of the Year 2001 for "Walk On" and Rock Album of the Year 2001. In addition, he produced dance remixes of both „Beautiful Day" as one half of remix duo Quincey & Sonance and „Elevation" for U2 single releases. He continues to work with the band and regularly mixes their live TV and radio performances). I can't forget also William James Adams Jr. (born March 15, 1975, better known by his stage name will.i.am, he is a Jamaican American who has won an Emmy Award and a Grammy Award. Will.I.Am is a hip hop musician, rapper, dancer, songwriter, animation voice and founding member and frontman of Black Eyed Peas. He also has his own label called will.i.am music group).
